Story About Encounters Episode 2
Publisher:alpmed Share:

72-year-old Mr. Bai has become a great-grandfather. Whenever he plays with his great-grandchildren, he remembers the serious illness he had four years ago and how lucky he was to have "encountered" during the process of seeking medical treatment.

Mr. Bai has always been the mainstay of his family. Years of hard work and worry have led to his diagnosis of hypertension and coronary heart disease. Taking medication to maintain his health has become a part of his daily life.

In 2019, Mr. Bai felt discomfort in his upper abdomen again. Accompanied by his family, he went to Tianjin Medical University General Hospital for medical treatment. The enhanced CT and MRI images of his abdomen showed a nodular enhanced area in the left lobe of the liver, with a size of about 20mmX16mm. Finally, the histological diagnosis was liver cancer.

At that time, Director Fan Yong from the Department of Radiology and Interventional Medicine who received Mr. Bai considered that he had been suffering from coronary heart disease for many years and had severe hypertension, and his health status could not tolerate open surgery. Therefore, he suggested that Mr. Bai could consider participating in the clinical trial of domestic nanoknife therapy that was being conducted in the hospital for treatment first, and then combine it with a systemic treatment plan.

The family and Mr. Bai himself were both worried and helpless, but Director Fan Yong and his team, led by Professor Fu, patiently analyzed the condition for them and explained the advantages of the overall tumor treatment plan and nanoknife therapy. They fully helped Mr. Bai and his family dispel their concerns.

In the end, Mr. Bai made what now seems to be the correct decision and joined the clinical trial group for domestic nanoknife therapy. He underwent nanoknife ablation surgery in August 2019.

Immediately after the surgery, an enhanced CT scan was performed, which showed no enhancement within the lesion, indicating that the ablation treatment was very effective.

One month after the surgery, Mr. Bai returned to the general hospital for a follow-up examination. Similarly, the enhanced CT and MRI images showed significant necrosis of the treated lesion, and the range of the lesion was significantly reduced compared to before.

In May 2022, Mr. Bai happily accepted a follow-up visit and said, "I am 72 years old this year. Since I underwent the ablation surgery nearly four years ago, I have been regularly checked every year and my physical condition has been good without any local recurrence! Now I have a great-grandson, and I can occasionally help to entertain him. My happy life now is thanks to the fortunate encounter with the new technology of nanoknife. It can be said that nanoknife has given me a new life. I also thank the two directors of Tianjin General Hospital for their patient analysis and explanation. I hope that this new technology of nanoknife can be quickly promoted to help more patients!"

Mr. Bai's "rebirth" is another clinical validation of Alpmed's independently developed “domestic nano-knife" in the treatment of liver malignant tumors.

Tianjin Medical University General Hospital is the first unit in Tianjin to successfully carry out nanoknife treatment for liver malignant tumors.Dr.Fan Yong and Dr.Fu Dianxun bravely took on the responsibility and expressed their hope that the "domestic nano-knife" can be used to help more patients with intractable cancer to be reborn.
